South Norfolk is the district below Norwich, and its own council left it in 2023 to share a headquarters near the city. That is a fair sign of how loosely the place holds together. Wymondham is the largest town, with its abbey and its station on the Cambridge line, and after that come Diss in the south, Harleston and Loddon in the east, Long Stratton in the middle and Costessey and Hethersett on the Norwich fringe.

Wymondham News covers all of it from the record. Planning applications, licensing notices, committee papers, crime figures, sold prices. In a district of villages, that paperwork is where most of what changes gets decided, and we link to the document behind every fact we print.

  • Wymondham house prices: the middle sale in the town was £285,000, from 1,852 Land Registry records across the district.
  • Trains to London: there is no direct service. The fastest is 2h14 with a change at Norwich, and the annual season is £10,460.
  • Roadworks and travel: the A11 shuts between Wymondham and Thickthorn from 18 to 21 September, plus car park charges and park and ride fares.
  • Things to do in Wymondham: the abbey is free, the Heritage Museum is £4, and the steam railway runs 11 miles to Dereham.
  • Planning: Greater Norwich can show only 4.85 years of housing land, so the presumption in favour of development applies here now.
